Tree with Open-billed Stork
Having fed on fish from the river, the Pelican pauses to stretch beneath the summer sun. Sandeep surrounds the bird with the unmistakable signs of the season—a cloudless sky, gently parched grass, and an atmosphere of unhurried stillness. The painting captures a fleeting moment of repose, where the heat of the day seems to slow time itself. Rich in detail and mood, the work celebrates the quiet beauty and tranquility of life in the natural world.

HEN & CHICKS
This charming painting depicts a hen surrounded by a lively group of chicks, happily playing and exploring around their protective parent. Inspired by Sandeep's fond memories of visiting his village, the work captures the innocence and joy of rural life. The chicks frolic through the grass, some eagerly attempting their first wing flaps, filling the scene with energy and delight. Rendered with remarkable delicacy, the grassy landscape is rich in detail while maintaining a harmonious sense of proportion. The composition is viewed from a low perspective, allowing the tall blades of grass to rise dramatically against the open sky. This unique viewpoint invites the viewer into the world of the chicks, transforming an everyday rural scene into a vivid and immersive celebration of childhood, nature, and memory.
Birds Life Cycle
Rooted in the earth and flowering with life, this remarkable tree becomes a stage upon which the story of a crane family unfolds. Within a series of interconnected circles, Sandeep depicts different moments in the birds' lives—courtship, nesting, hatching, nurturing, and growth. The composition reads like a visual journey through the cycle of life, where each stage is linked to the next by bonds of care and continuity. The cranes move gracefully through the painting, embodying companionship, devotion, and parental love. Eggs give way to chicks, and chicks to mature birds, reflecting nature's endless rhythm of renewal. The vibrant red backdrop heightens the sense of energy and life, while the intricate branches suggest the many connections that unite all living beings. Rich in symbolism and detail, the painting is both a celebration of the crane's life cycle and a meditation on family, growth, and the enduring beauty of nature.
Golden Crowned Crane 1a

Golden Crowned Crane 2a
Renowned for its grace and beauty, the Golden Crowned Crane is typically found in pairs, with males and females appearing almost identical. The bird's delicate golden crest resembles a royal crown, enhancing its majestic presence. “It carries itself like a member of a royal family,” says Sandeep. Presented as a pair, these paintings honor the crane's enduring partnership while capturing its refined elegance and timeless charm.

Seahorse
Graceful and enigmatic, the Seahorse is among the most remarkable inhabitants of the marine world. Unlike most fish, it swims upright and is distinguished by an extraordinary reversal of parental roles: the female deposits her eggs into the male's brood pouch, where they develop until he gives birth to fully independent young. Sandeep portrays the newborn seahorses as translucent and fragile, capturing the vulnerability of new life. Surrounding the central figure are delicate, tree-like forms born from the artist's imagination. Inspired by the algae that often cling to seahorses in their natural habitat, these organic extensions create the illusion of miniature underwater forests growing from the creature itself. Through this fusion of scientific observation and artistic interpretation, the painting evokes the magic, resilience, and wonder of the ocean's hidden world.
Flying Gurnard
Native to the deep sea, this extraordinary fish unfurls its fins like wings, giving the impression that it is flying through the water. Fascinated by its elegant and distinctive form, Sandeep portrays the creature in motion, transforming it into a dreamlike vision. In the painting, the fish evokes the image of a flying squirrel, suspended between reality and imagination.
Flying Gurnard Group
This work portrays a group of Gurnards employing a remarkable defensive strategy. By extending their gill covers in a wing-like formation, they create a deceptive silhouette that resembles flying squirrels. Sandeep captures this fascinating adaptation with both precision and artistic flair, highlighting the beauty hidden within the mysteries of the deep sea.
Chameleon
This master of camouflage, the lizard can rotate each of its eyes 360 degrees independently, allowing it to look in different directions at the same time. Sandeep says, “This beautiful creature is depicted hunting in the darkness of the night.” Powerfully rendered, the reptile almost seems to come alive before your eyes.
TWO WORLDS OF MY CHILDHOOD
It reflects the artist's experience of growing up between two different worlds—what he describes as “two worlds within my world.” The city of Bhopal, where he studied and lived, and Patangarh, his grandmother's village, shaped his identity in distinct ways. Sandeep says, “Two different realities merge within me, connected only by the route travelled.” Represented through architectural landmarks, the city symbolizes his childhood and personal experiences. In contrast, the village is associated with memories of the tree under whose shade he enjoyed time with buffaloes, goats, oxen, and hens, as well as the farming life of his uncles that he often participated in and observed.
OARFISH
Emerging from the depths of the ocean, the Oarfish is depicted as a majestic and otherworldly being. Its long, flowing body moves through the water with effortless grace, while coral-like branches and trailing tendrils transform the creature into a living underwater landscape. Sandeep's imaginative interpretation reflects the mystery of the deep sea, where reality and fantasy often seem intertwined. Surrounded by drifting jellyfish and set against the vast blue expanse of the ocean, the Oarfish becomes a symbol of the hidden wonders that lie beyond human sight. Rich in detail and imagination, the painting invites viewers to explore a world of beauty, curiosity, and endless discovery.
Caracal
The highly endangered nocturnal wild cat, Caracal, has a characteristic robust build, long legs, and long black-edged ears whose tufts extend upwards like antennas. This mysterious cat could conceal itself in bushes and, with lightning speed, catch birds flying above even at a height of 12 feet from the ground. A company miniature from 1793 shows one such cat that was presented to the British monarch. Sandeep's painting captures the cat and its remarkable qualities.
JACANA 1
The Jacana emerges for a leisurely walk, its chicks safely sheltered beneath its wings. As it moves gracefully across the water's surface, it remains alert in its search for prey. Its sharp, focused gaze reveals the instincts of a skilled hunter, carefully scanning its surroundings for insects and small fish. Every step is measured and deliberate, ensuring that potential prey remains unaware of its presence. Sandeep captures this delicate balance between parental care and survival, portraying the bird as both a devoted guardian and a vigilant forager.
JACANA 2
In this intimate moment, the Jacana rests peacefully with its chicks tucked securely beneath its wings. The gentle embrace shields the young birds from the watchful eyes of predators, transforming the parent into both guardian and sanctuary. Through this portrayal, Sandeep celebrates the quiet strength, devotion, and protective instincts that define the natural world.
JACANA 3
Famous for its extraordinary parenting behavior, the male Jacana carries its chicks beneath its wings while navigating floating lily pads. The dangling legs of the hidden chicks create the illusion that they are part of the father's body. Sandeep was particularly drawn to the bird's unusual role reversal, with the male taking the lead in caring for the young. Known as Jalmurgi, the Jacana is portrayed in five different moods and poses. Using a composition reminiscent of wildlife photography, Sandeep keeps the bird in sharp focus while allowing the background to recede softly. The paintings feature the vibrant African Jacana, whose striking colors and graceful form are brought to life with remarkable detail and sensitivity.
JACANA 4
Here, the Jacana is shown scratching its head in a moment of unguarded ease. Sandeep imagines the bird having finished its meal and settling into a state of peaceful relaxation. The intimate portrayal reveals a softer side of the bird, transforming an ordinary gesture into a charming expression of comfort and contentment.
